What you say is certainly true about the market rallying longer this year than last year. Case in point, lets take AMAT at 3 data points as follows:

5/20/02 26.28
6/10/02 20.46
6/10/03 15.47(mid-day)

The "handwriting" on the wall was sooner last year than this year, but the semi-equips were starting from a much higher base last year than this year.

Also, as the previous table shows, the analysts have been more "upbeat" this year until now - it looks like that is about to change. The first "shot across the bow" happened this morning with BoA and AH.
