DCI Announces Plan to Distribute Free Philips Electronics Prepaid Cellular Telephones with AT&T Service to Privilege Card Participants
UXBRIDGE, Mass., Aug. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- DCI Telecommunications, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: DCTC), an international supplier of telephone services including long distance, prepaid cellular and telephone cards and related products, today announced the details of its plan to distribute, free of charge and with no monthly service charges, prepaid cellular telephones to members of select Privilege Card(TM) programs.
The Privilege Card programs are developed by DCI's subsidiary Privilege Enterprises Limited (PEL). PEL, which recently announced a Privilege Card distribution agreement with SPACE Travel Agents Marketing Consortium based in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., indicated that the phones will also be available through retail and wholesale programs.
DCI will distribute Philips Electronics (NYSE:PHG) high tech cellular telephones to participants of these select Privilege Card programs, which will carry a one year in-home/office warranty. The cellular service will be provided by AT&T (NYSE:T). DCI revenues will be bolstered as users continue to purchase time for their phone.
There are no monthly charges incurred when using a prepaid cellular telephone. Consumers pre-pay for the time they anticipate they will need. Additional time can be purchased as needed and since the air time is prepaid, no credit check is necessary. The service will provide reduced roaming charges and members may have up to two phone numbers, one for the home area and one while away at college, vacation home or traveling to a particular city.
DCI President and CEO Joseph J. Murphy said, ``There are approximately 35 million cellular phones in the U.S. alone and nearly 5O% of the applications submitted for cellular service are turned down due to credit problems or no credit history. This leaves a substantial segment of the marketplace searching for a service to satisfy their need for a cellular telephone. This is an opportunity for DCI to provide cellular service to this untapped market.''
Susan Eaton, Program Director, indicated examples of the target markets to which programs will be directed include college students, truckers, rent-a-centers, travel agencies and medical personnel.
Privilege Card programs revolve around a custom designed, value added card that allows the card holder to receive a ``privilege'' at any of the over 8,000 participating merchants located in major cities throughout the United States. The privilege the holder receives can be in the form of a discount on purchases, a free gift or any privilege determined by the participating merchant. In a typical program, the cost of a Privilege Card is $29.95.
