The good old days ain't coming back any time soon, Bob.

The bubble we wittnessed recently is of historical proportion - South Sea, tulips, 1929, etc.

Don't think we'll see another one like that for a while. Probably not in our lifetimes.

You've got a balancing act to do with advertisers. Limit the discussion to strictly stocks, and you reduce the number of page views. Don't limit it, and you lower the value of a page view.

But I think the PRIMARY reason for lower ad rates at SI today vs a couple of years ago are:

- Significantly lower online ad rates over-all

- Recognition that ads placed on discussion threads have a very low impact - are effectively ignored by users - compared with ads on other types of sites or other locations within a site. This was NOT recognized by the industry early on, and resulted in excessivly high ad rates on discussion sites. The market has now corrected this.

- Less advertising dollars available for market-related products, as brokers continue to fail and consolidate, and those that remain tighen their belts
