Why would Israel care? Everyone already knows that Syria has their own WMDs. So does Iran, for that matter, and they're not exactly big buddies of Israel.
1.) Because it would highlight a subject that, although YOU AND I, and the ISRAELIS, might know it, would become a major issue since it would indicate that Assad and Saddam were actively collaborating.. Collaborating to the extent that Syria ACTIVELY VIOLATED ALL SANCTIONS that had been imposed against Iraq, including preventing UNSCOM/UNMOVIC from successfully disarming Iraq, as per the UNSC resolutions.
2.) It would make Syria an active accessory to deceiving the UN. A standing member of the UNSC found to be an accessory to deceiving that very body, mind you. And THAT, along with the fact that we're talking upwards of a 1,000 tonnes of WMDs, would be politically unacceptable to Israel. They would demand the UN act, rightfully, under Chapter VII of the UN charter to force Syria to destroy not only Iraq's weapons, but Syria's as well.
3.) Israel might believe that Syria, with its back against the wall, might be heading the direction of Iraq to the point where Assad is willing to risk a confrontation with Israel in order to save face (protected by his chemical arsenal).
That's WHY, Bilow... The Israelis would be handed a tremendous opportunity to "stick it" to the Syrians, and I believe they would milk it for all it's worth.
