LLCF,

it appears that the basic plan to solve today's problem is to borrow from tomorrow. On the fiscal side, Keynesian style deficit spending. On the monetary side, print print print while lowering rates to zero.

While we are very quick on criticizing Japan and offering wild ass unworkable solutions, we are ourselves rapidly heading down the same path. How soon would the baby boomers realize that the real estate wealth effect is a bigger bubble than the irrational exuberant stock market bubble. In addition, many are now stuck in 30 year mortgages with 29 years left to go. Early retirement? Forget it. They will be working till they die. We are going to have one monster of a liquity trap when they start saving.

Damn, this thread must have some contagious virus. I am ranting like Jay and Maurice. <ggggg>
