I am not a theologian (theologist?) but my understanding of the Bible is that God has punished the Jews on many occasions for turning away from His Word. When I see settlers arguing that the West Bank is theirs because God gave it to them, I get a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach. Some of them treat Arabs as inferior people. We talk a lot on this thread about the bad things that Arabs do, but it's impossible to even suggest that a Jew might possibly have done something wrong without being attacked. It's a tribal mentality, and it's outmoded. I've actually been asked by Jews if I am a "member of the tribe"! My husband used to play games with an Orthodox Jew who would cut me dead if I said hello to him, because I am NOT a member of the tribe (MOT is another expression).
