No I'm not an expert on rape but you can expert shop on just about any issue and find one to support your case. I know enough about the issues involved to understand the experts and formulate a rational opinion.

From what I can see the "rape is JUST about power" idea is not held by a majority of psychologists.

Of course, its not JUST about power. The rapist does get off. However, the motive is not usually lust because they find the person physically or emotionally attractive; otherwise, 60 year grandmothers and 5 year olds would not be their victims. Its knowing that they can control the other person and get whatever they want from that person.

It also seems that when it is pushed its more about political correctness then rational thought.

Huh? That makes no sense.

One thing distinguishes rape from other sex is the element of imposing your will, the power element, but it is still sex. In many cases imposing his power over someone else gives the rapist a sexual thrill, but even then it is a sexual thrill and not all cases are about that.

Many date rape cases are more along the lines of - 2 people have been drinking and acting sexual. The woman doesn't actually want to have sex at least not yet but doesn't communicate this clearly partially because of the alcohol, the man misreads what signals the woman is giving, and because of his drinking is less in control of himself.

I don't consider most date rapes the same as rape committed on a stranger. Alcohol or drugs is the excuse used to get what the person wants. Its not hard to understand what "no" means but its more pleasurable to ignore that demand when you are already hard.

The woman says no last minute (or gets to the point where she is too drunk to coherently say no) and the guy doesn't stop. The woman is less able to resist because of the alcohol and has sex even though she doesn't really want to. There is no violence and the guy doesn't even think of it as rape. This is sort of borderline case of rape, but technically it is rape. The guy did it to get laid not to impose his will on someone.

Agreed.

" Not all rapists are serial rapists or chronically abusive people. "

What? Now you're an expert on rape and you're formulating a new theory on rapist. The stuff I posted is commonly held theory by American psychologists. From where are you getting your info?

It is not commonly held that every single rapist (or even almost every single one) is a serial rapist or is chronically abusive.

You're quibbling......irresponsibly.
