Reuters
Import Prices Fall for 2nd Straight Month
Thursday June 12, 8:31 am ET

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. import prices fell in May for the second consecutive month as costs declined for a variety of goods, the government said on Thursday in a report unlikely to soothe deflation fears.
Import prices dropped 0.3 percent in May, the Labor Department said, after a revised 3.0 percent fall in April. The decrease was slightly more than the 0.2 percent expected by analysts.

The cost of food, industrial supplies, petroleum and capital goods imports all tumbled, while car prices rose 0.1 percent and consumer goods prices excluding autos were unchanged. Non-fuel imports fell 0.3 percent, the largest monthly decline since the series began in December 2001.

Export prices rose 0.1 percent, the fourth increase in the past five month.

Cheers
