I post it here and you say "the situation will go into low-grade war"? Maybe you're right. I heard later reports that the Hamas leaders are going into hiding, so maybe they were just bluffing. My take on it is different.

OK, we've got the makings of a real wager here. I am betting on Israel starting a real shooting war with the militants, with a lot of bloodshed and carnage on both sides. Lots of dead babies and exploded buses, lots of houses knocked down with bulldozers.

Hezbollah seems to have its hands tied down in Iran. The hardliners are siccing them onto the student demonstrators and apparently a big demonstration is coming up soon. So now is a good time to go after Hamas.

As a side bet, I don't think Bush is going to stop Sharon.

But at the end of the day, the road map will still proceed.
