The fact that a few CSCC people left is no surprise to me, but I thought some of you might be interested in what industry folks are whispering. For the rest of the column (and a whack at USR), check out: www8.zdnet.com <Excerpt> Networking industry wags are beginning to refer to the Ascend-Cascade merger as a "Bay 2," in reference to the culture shock and subsequent turmoil caused by the Wellfleet-SynOptics merger that created Bay Networks in 1994. But rather than East Coast (Wellfleet) dominating West Coast (SynOptics) in the original, in the sequel it's reversed, with Ascend (Alameda, Calif.) playing the overbearing partner with Cascade (Westford, Mass.). El Gato hears that a few key people from Cascade have already left, with the merger barely 4 months old. <end> -tk
