"Jelly bread always falls jelly side down" This is making me queasy, given it's Friday (the 13th no less) just after the market close. I think there is a well known law that "bad trial results will always be announced late Friday after the market closes." <g> I actually recall an article (in something like the New Scientist) purporting to explain why bread falls butter-side down (not jelly-side, this being a British article as I recollect it). It had something to do with the height of the table and the angular momentum of a struck piece of toast, or something along those lines... It reminded me of a great story (told I think in Rhode's great book on the atomic bomb) about a German professor at the turn of the previous century. A student asked him why the ventilators on the trolley cars turned as they did. The professor exclaimed that that was easy, and proceeded to explain. The student diffidently responded to Herr Professor that his explanation was all very well, but in fact the ventilators turned in the opposite direction. The professor responded: "Well that's even easier to explain then..." Peter
