Well, maybe it's only a minority really.
But that minority seems drawn to professions such as waiter, Metro ticket agent, doorman, salesperson and similar vocations, and these really do give admirable opportunity for subtle insolence of quite dramatic proportions.
They seemed to speak English far worse than my French, too.
