This is just more loser rhetoric. Already you see that there is no will in this country to pursue suppliers of foreign weapons in Iran, Syria or Saudi Arabia.
Hmm... So what would you have them do.. Immediately invade all three nations? Or continue to apply political and economic pressure (which will eventually work because they have no rival superpower acting as their patron)?
I prefer the latter, consolidating our position in Iraq, as we continue to isolate the supporters of any Baathist remnants.
I mean, geez.. You really expect a lot in only two months, don't ya now? It's not like there were gangs of thugs and urban terrorism (on Saddam's behalf) existent before the US invaded..
Rumsfeld just announced that we're killing fighters from outside Iraq, mostly from Jordan or Syria.
Do you have a problem with that? These folks, for the most part, are Jihadists. The same type of people who carried out the attack on 9/11.
And it's not like this is the first time we've found ourselves killing foreign militants in Iraq. That happened in the first week of the war as we came across some Syrians near, I believe, Najaf.
What does that do to your theory about the differences between Vietnam and Iraq?
Again, it tells me that we're not facing a stand-off with some patron state such as China or the former USSR arming and supplying these groups. The closest thing to it is Iran.
Johnson and Nixon were apparently unwilling to carry the Vietnam war into Laos and Cambodia (until 1970). It's the same reason that the US didn't invade N. Vietnam, the fear of provoking a Korea style intervention by China or Russia.
Of course, it was alright for the N. Vietnamese to invade Laos and Cambodia and use them as staging bases, but we couldn't do the same.
Btw, with regard to the recent operations in Iraq, something you should bear in mind. Sometimes it appropriate to permit the enemy to reconsolidate and regroup their forces. That way you can fix and destroy them enmasse and not one by one.
27 Iraqis Killed in Attack on U.S. Tanks By BORZOU DARAGAHI, Associated Press Writer
BALAD, Iraq - Iraqis hiding in a thicket of reeds attacked a U.S. tank column, igniting a fierce battle that drew in Apache helicopters and Bradley armored vehicles. Twenty-seven Iraqis were killed Friday, raising to 100 the number of anti-American fighters slain in a U.S. operation to hunt down Saddam Hussein (news - web sites) supporters.....
.....In another development, U.S. troops acting on an intelligence tip arrested 74 people described as sympathizers of the al-Qaida terrorist network in a raid Thursday near the northern city of Kirkuk, Central Command said.

And we didn't lose a single person in that attack Raymond.
How long do you think they will continue to find recruits when they are losing 100 of them for every one of us?
Pretty soon the word will get out... Don't bother going to Iraq.. You won't come back.
Btw, I think Shinseki was correct to an extent. We didn't have sufficient "tooth" in our forces for a post-invasion stabilization operation. But apparently it was appropriate for creating the destruction of the Baathist government.
