RF Micro Devices Recognized as World's Leading Supplier of Power Amplifiers For Wireless Handsets Wednesday June 11, 8:31 am ET RFMD Ranked Number One in Gartner Dataquest's June 2003 Report 'Wireless Communications Semiconductor Competitive Market Shares for 2002'
GREENSBORO, N.C., June 11 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- RF Micro Devices, Inc. (Nasdaq: RFMD - News), a leading provider of proprietary radio frequency integrated circuits (RFICs) for wireless communications applications, today announced that Gartner Dataquest has recognized RF Micro Devices as the industry's number one provider of power amplifiers (PAs) for wireless handsets based on 2002 revenues. According to a June 2003 report entitled, "Wireless Communications Semiconductor Competitive Market Shares for 2002," Gartner Dataquest estimated the worldwide PA market in 2002 was approximately $1.09 billion, of which Gartner estimates RFMD held approximately 35 percent market share. ADVERTISEMENT Eric Creviston, corporate vice president of wireless products at RF Micro Devices, said, "Gartner Dataquest estimated that our market share grew from 26 percent in 2001 to 35 percent in 2002, which supports our view that RFMD continued to put distance between ourselves and our competition in fiscal 2003. For years, we have been the most trusted merchant supplier of power amplifiers for wireless handsets, and we anticipate building upon our leadership position in fiscal 2004. Of note, our growth in market share represents a 35 percent increase, which significantly exceeds Gartner's estimates for growth among any of our major competitors."
Power amplifiers are the most critical component in the radio section of handsets and amplify the handset's signal through its antenna back to the base station.
