The Russell 2000 stocks are buried in the Russell 3000 list. The Russell 3000 stocks that not included in the Russell 1000 list when it is finalized on July 9 become the Russell 2000 stocks.

Q: How is an index like the Russell 2000 calculated?
A: The market capitalization (share price multiplied by the number of shares outstanding) of all the stocks that are incorporated in the U.S. is calculated on the last day of May and the lowest 2,000 of the top 3,000 stocks are selected for the Russell 2000® index, our small-cap benchmark.
