We can hope :-) I certainly am. My mother is very sad and worried. But I keep telling her that just when you get the most upset, it's probably a turning point. Poor thing, she is in her 80's- and she is worried about her grandchildren living in a fascist state. I remind her that the 50's were every bit as fascist as now (perhaps more so) and we got through them, and we'll get through this, I hope. We are a diverse and restless people, and we like to think of ourselves as free, even if we do not do enough to guard our cherished freedoms. We are complacent, and many of our citizens are ignorant, but I like to think that if push came to shove, the citizens of this country would rise up to defeat any real take over of our government. Now I know I'm an optimist, I always have been, and I'm sure I always will be- but I'm not going to apologize for that :-) There are good things about being an optimist. |
