You will have to provide a citation for this assertion. I've read some of Hawking's work and while I cannot claim to have a high enough IQ to be able to follow his theorization, I do have an ample IQ to be able to cast this purported statement into the realm of pure speculation.

Perhaps it would behoove you to consider the history of human intelligence and understanding.

First, humans believed that animist superstitions were reasonable explanations for their existence. Then we had more organized mono-theistic and non-deist religion that purported to organize society.

We are at the cusp of a new phenomenon. In order to survive as as species, we must decrease the human population by 80-90%. How are we to accomplish this feat?
