Got a bunch of problems occurring all at once. Maybe someone can help? (I have a year old Compaq with Win.XP)

1. Windows Media Player won't work-- no sound. I went to RealPlayer and got sound there, then went back to Windows M.P. and it worked. Then I closed WMP, reopened it, and the reopened player wouldn't work. Currently it won't give me sound.

2. When I tried uninstalling this once software that was about 350k it wouldn't totally uninstall and My Computer showed about 25k of software left. When I tried uninstalling it, I got a window pop-up that said "WISE Uninstall Could not open Install.Logfile"

I then tried installing the software CD Rom and it wouldn't do that-- said "Initializing WISE Installation Wizard but nothing happened. I tried installing through the CD drive but that didn't help.

So, I have no music availability in Windows Media and I can't install or uninstall certain software. I think I can install other software, as I started to install an AT&T ISP CD ROM and it looked like it was working (although I stopped before installing it in toto).

Any ideas on what's wrong? I tried doing the restore thing restoring things as of a couple weeks ago but that didn't help things at all.
