I would presume that in Muslim countries where marriages are often arranged rather than chosen by the bride, the loyalties would often be with their own family rather than to their husband.


The husband is very often a cousin, as he was in this case.

Does anybody know what percentage of marriages in the Arab world, or any subsection of it, are between first cousins? I get the impression that among Palestinian and Jordanians, it's the majority of marriages.
