You might also read the DVD newsgroup for some less objective info...

What I was trying to say was that there has 'never' been much disagreement
between the studios and manufacturers like MEI. (A huge oversimplification.)
The real conflict is between the studios and the DVD-ROM users/makers.

(There's also a seperate argument about audio-only DVD discs.)

That impass is still there, and it could easily derail/delay the entire DVD effort.
I've seen some recent press releases claiming that this problem has been solved,
but I've seen nothing official, and I smell big-time spin-control/wishful-thinking...
