To All. Press Release:

I have owned IOM shares in the past and wish that I still did. But looking at the following press release makes me think that I would like to own a Shark--& I own both a Jaz & a Zip drive. The Shark looks good. Has anyone heard anything about the Shark that isn't better than the Zip?

Company Press Release

Avatar Peripherals Reduces Price of Shark 250 to $199 After $50 Rebate

MILPITAS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 4, 1997--Avatar Peripherals Inc. today announced a new price of $199 after $50 mail-in rebate for its award-winning Shark 250 mobile hard disk drive with mini-removable media.

The Shark 250 suggested street price was reduced from $299 to $249, and the $50 mail-in rebate program has been extended through the end of the year.

The new pricing and $50 rebate apply to Avatar's entire line of Shark drives, including the Shark 250 Parallel Port, and the newly announced PC Card version.

The Shark 250 provides notebooks and desktop users with unlimited hard disk expansion in a portable drive. This drive gives the user much needed functionality, and is ideal for fast and easy backup, file sharing, expanded storage, running large applications, data libraries and presentations.

The Shark 250 mobile hard disk drive delivers 250MB of storage per HARDiskette media, that's 2.5 times the capacity of Iomega's Zip drive. In addition, the Shark 250 uses technology that's four times faster, a form factor that's one-third smaller, and is one-third the weight of the Zip drive. Unlike the Zip drive, the Shark 250 connects to the computer with a single cable connection for both power and data without requiring an external power supply.

``The $199 price makes the Shark 250 drive an affordable alternative to computer users considering purchasing a Zip drive,'' said Bill Mowry, director of channel marketing at Avatar Peripherals. ``The Shark 250 is faster, smaller and weighs less than the popular Zip drive and is ideal for notebook and desktop users looking for a portable backup, storage and file
transfer solution.''

Service and Support

Avatar Peripherals' products carry a 30-day money-back guarantee (through the point of purchase) and a one-year limited hardware warranty. In consideration of notebook users' needs, Avatar Peripherals has designed two additional warranty programs: Extended warranty program for $49, and Premier Hassle-Free warranty program for $79.

Product and Availability

The Shark 250 mobile hard disk drive comes complete with an interface cable, software drivers, and one 250MB HARDiskette containing a collection of utility software. The 250MB HARDiskette media is available in a single-pack for $39, or a three-pack for $99. The Shark 250 drives and media are sold nationwide through leading computer retail stores like CompuUSA, Computer City, Egghead, Fry's, Future Shop, Sam's Club and mail order catalogs.
