read about california politics.
This used to be Reagan country, until 1992, when the republicans adopted that "family values" platform. No republican can win here unless they denounce their anti-choice stance, and some other critical but somewhat less lethal hotbutton issues like gun control. This has been going on since the mid-90s, and hit the absolute zenith in 98, when not a single republican won any office in the state except one guy, who was later recalled for something or other.
Now, fast forward to Davis. He blew the California economy, people hate him. A sure fire win for the republicans right? WRONG. They put up another extreme church freak, anti-choice, pro-gun nutcase, this type of individual the voters have rejected, repeatedly, and will continue to do so again. Now here we are with 4 more years of Davis, something nobody really wanted, but its better than letting the state get dominated by these nuts who think the largest crime against humanity is being born gay. Anyway back to politics, the republicans can't win until they get rid of this faction, full stop no exceptions and unless they do even the most unpopular crazies will continue to win here. Boxer, Davis, pretty much anybody.
Since republicans can't solve their own dysfunctional party issues they try to deflect the real problem and act like a fervent anti-choice stance in a state with the most working women in the US is somehow "off message". LOL. |
