< Hey Del, don't get me wrong, I got nothing against wind power so long as the HUGE windmills are in YOUR backyard > >
Where did you get the idea that windmills need to be in your or my backyard. There are plenty of farmers willing to use a small percentage of their acreage for windmills, and are doing just that. They bring in extra income, and provide good-paying rural jobs for their maintenance.
< I've seen those monstrocities, IMHO they are a VERY INEFFICIENT method of generating energy >
Wrong, but don't let facts get into your way. Since there are no fuel costs the only cost is the amortization of the equipment, fees to the farmer, or whoever, and maintenance. Based on a 20 year amortization, the cost of the electricity is about 5 cents a kWh. I am paying about 10 1/2 cents a kWh retail now, and the average is about 8 cents retail. Where did you get the idea that windmills are inefficient, from Watson?
< But you are naive if you think they would ever make a difference. Nuclear is the key... >
Then not only am I naive, so is General Electric, the European Union, Warren Buffet, the states of Texas, Iowa, Nevada, New Mexico, the Dakotas, and many more. What part of "windmills are 3 times more cost effective as nuclear" don't you get?
Oh I forgot, wrong wingers support Cheney's energy plan that calls for a new fossil fuel plant a week for the next 10 years, preferably coal.
By all means, don't let facts influence your thinking.
