Sam,

Nice to hear from you and Darren. I'm sick of hype-boards like the Encad forum and it's nice to have rational discussion.

Kinko's is a good example of PFP. Nearly every Kinko's offers sign services and they usually use HP's or Encads (just bought a ton of HP's). It's growing everywhere, very fast units are really doing well in Europe like electrostatics and PP5000. RGFX is doing really well in Europe. The market is fragmented, lots of mom-and-pop print shops getting into short-run-printing and signs. Distribution is fragmented but relies heavily on the copier channels since many large format printers are in combination with color servers to a color copier for short-run-printing. Anyone who makes a sign or billboard is a part of this growth and cheap machines are quickly expanding their capabilities.

Electrostatics are 2X the $ of the PP5000 with crappy quality and lots of waste but boy are they fast (1 in/sec net for 4 color printing).

Cannon has a good piezo printhead, though I don't know if they lisence it. Xaar also has one I think. It's been around a while.

RGFX does need end user mktg but also much better distribution. Danka and Icon need to sell them like they sell encads. They also need good channel health so distributors sell their stuff.
