I am sure that that may be true, but so far no one has posted anything other than personal recollections of the period to support these statements.
FWIW I have been a natural gas customer continuously since 1970 and intermittently before that, in various parts of the country, and seem to recall a big squeeze back in the early 1970s when we were asked to cut consumption by 10% or more, but my impression is that most gas sold across the country over those earlier decades was priced about the same across the country, and in line with the "customer price" line on the graph provided. So my own personal recollections correspond to the published statistics.
These nationwide price spikes, driven by storage shortfalls, really do seem to be a new thing. |
