Samsung sees no chip market upturn in 03, says report.
Semiconductor Business News
(06/17/03 01:31 p.m. EST)

SEOUL, Korea --- An executive from Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., the world's largest second largest chip maker has said that he does not expect chip prices to recover before the end of 2003, according to Reuters citing Maeil Business Newspaper on Tuesday (June 17, 2003).

Lee Yoon-woo, president of Samsung's semiconductor division, dismissed a recent rally in chip prices as a short-term correction and said chip prices would remain weak until the end of this year due to low corporate demand, the report said.

It was not made clear whether the Samsung executive was referring to DRAMs, which have enjoyed a mild recovery recently (see June 13 story), or chips more generally.
