To the thread...
My home system hard drive has recently been sounding just a wee bit quieter than my lawnmower. No amount of shifting or rebalancing the cpu makes it stop. Anticipating imminent meltdown coming I have shut the unit down ( tho all programs are currently running ok). I recall my 1st computer guru (15 yrs ago) relating the sad story of a hard drive crash occurring for lack of a simple drop of oil/lubricant??

So my questions are...is there any such thing?.. and if not, how do these machines cope with the inevitable friction? And most importantly since this is an older system if I decide to update to new equipment what is the preferred(least time consuming) method to move current programs and files to the new machine? Current machine..350 mhz AMD II 3D Pentium system, (6.4 ghd) runs win 98 .

Thanks to any and all for suggestions.

You are welcome if the lawnmower/oil change provides a few laughs (^_^)

John
