Hi Conrad Quick thoughts
Picked up a bottle of Minute Maid single serving juice at Einstein Bagels for my son and noticed it's down to 15.2 oz from 16. Assuming the price remained the same, that's about a 5.5% price increase pushed under the table. May have mentioned before, but picked up a box of Mrs Pauls Healthy Select fish sticks several months ago. The box was about 10" high. It collapsed in my hand. 7 of that was air. I think the CPI is under-reported With all the adjustments and dynamics, it just doesn't seem reliable. Price increases are all around. stats.bls.gov stats.bls.gov
From the furniture retailing side, we are doing fine. Trying to keep a tight ship and to avoid costly mistakes. From what I'm hearing and reading, most are not. One factor-spring never sprung. Chilly, damp weather hung over Phila. area most of the past 3 1/2 months. We've only very recently enjoyed a string of rain free days longer than 1. 10-11 Saturday's and/or weekends in a row were wet and below norm temperatures. So outdoor furniture sales were badly hurt. Just visited someone's new 60,000 sq ft outdoor furn. mfgr facility. He reported horrible season. Local garden center established in late 40's? had worst season ever. Seashore resort merchants took a hit as well.
As long as the real estate market continues to hold, rates stay low, and home values rise or at least sustain all or most of their recent appreciation, homeowners will feel somewhat financially secure. Homes in area continue to sell within days.
On another subject Attended show in Indianapolis 2 weeks ago. Ate here bazbeaux.com I'm pretty easy when critiquing pizza, but this had to be the worst ever. Looked and tasted as if a 5 year old spilled a can of Joe's institutional tomato sauce on old loaf of bread. And every bite of the spinach salad crackled with dirt Promoted as "Indianapolis' best" because it may be the only game in town. They need to focus less on the wall hangings, music, and downtown hip image and learn what soap and hot water are for and take some courses on what constitutes edible food. Congrats to the Spurs! |
