Norm, very informative links. It still looks to me like the problem is in the code, not the embedded controllers. Seems as though the controllers are going to receive a command from another system and that system is running code of some kind. The controller either sends a condition report, or receives a command to activate. I just don't see these relatively "dumb" chips making date calculations.

Maybe some of the "firmware" type chips are different, but it still seems that they are going to be counting time rather than calculating it.

I should point out that I am not qualified to draw any conclusions in this area. I am just speaking to the logic of the situation, as I see it. Are there any engineers out there with a simple example that we might be able to understand?
