SAMSys Technologies and Intermec Sign Agreement to Build RFID Readers

Readers to Support Material Handling and Tire and Wheel Label Standards

TORONTO, June 17 /CNW/ - SAMSys Technologies Inc. (SMY:TSX-VEN)
("SAMSys"), SAMSys Technologies Inc. (SAMSys), a world leading provider of
radio frequency identification (RFID) hardware solutions and RFID integration
consulting services, today announced that it has signed an agreement with
Intermec, a global provider of supply chain products, services and systems.
Under this agreement, SAMSys will build and sell RFID readers in support of
the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) for Material Handling and the
Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG) Standard.
Intermec, best known as the inventor of the world's most widely used bar
code symbology, develops, manufactures and integrates wired and wireless
automated data collection, Intellitag(R) RFID (radio frequency identification)
and mobile computing systems. Local area data management systems by Intermec
include handheld, vehicle-mounted and stationary computer networking terminals
tailored to specific applications, host environments and bar code networks.
The agreement jointly advances the potential uses of RFID solutions in tire
tracking applications. SAMSys will build and sell reader hardware for Standard
MH10.8.4 for Material Handling -- Unit Load and Transport Packages and
Standard B-11 for Tire and Wheel Labels.
"Intermec is pleased to have SAMSys producing readers capable of
supporting these two important industry standards. The adoption and deployment
of RFID depends on there being a critical mass of competent equipment
suppliers," says Scott Medford, Vice President Global Business Development,
Intermec Technologies Corporation. "Having multiple suppliers of readers
supporting these standards should bring additional confidence to end users in
their decision to adopt this RFID technology."
SAMSys offers a selection of reader solutions including standard
frequency-specific modules, custom-made application specific reader systems,
and OEM modules to provide tailored solutions for a wide variety of supply
chain management, logistics management, and tracking and fulfillment
applications. In addition to providing reader solutions, SAMSys offers
consulting services that focus on the front-end of the RFID implementation
process.
"This agreement with Intermec validates SAMSys' position to develop
reader hardware and accessories based on broadly used industry standards,"
says Cliff Horwitz, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of SAMSys. "These
standards provide a baseline for end users seeking to make use of recognized
and established tag protocol technology from Intermec in these two
applications spaces."
SAMSys' comprehensive line of RFID readers spans low frequency, high
frequency and UHF, supports a very broad range of protocols, which supports a
wide range of form factors, including: packaged and ready to use low power,
multi-protocol readers; high power, multi-protocol readers for demanding
applications; networked reader solutions for complex, multi-reader
applications; smart shelves; modules for integration into OEM products; RFID
reader networking tools for TCP/IP connectivity; and dual frequency readers at
125KHz/13.56MHz and 134KHz/13.56 MHz.
