Deirdre Sinnott (212) 633-6646MAJOR RALLY PLANNED AGAINST GEORGE W.
BUSHPeople to Bush:STAY OUT OF NEW YORK AND GET OUT OF IRAQIn the first major protest
rally since the height of the anti-war movement, the A.N.S.W.E.R. Coalition
(Act Now to Stop War & End Racism) is organizing a mass demonstration against
George W. Bush's June 23 New York City appearance at the biggest fundraising
event of his June election campaign tour. The New York Fundraiser will be at the
New York Sheraton Hotel on 52nd and 7th Avenue. Thousands of anti-war
protestors will assemble at a permitted rally across the street from the Sheraton hotel
starting a 5:00 p.m.Speakers at the rally will include former U.S. Attorney
General Ramsey Clark, Rev. Herbert Daughtry and NYC Councilmembers Charles
Barron and Margarita Lopez, along with labor leaders Roger Toussaint, president of
the Transit Workers Union, and other labor and community leaders.According to
A.N.S.W.E.R. spokesperson Larry Holmes, "All of the forces that have been
hurt by Bush's budget cutting, his tax giveaways and his bigotry will be at the
rally. But the central message of this mass rally will be to demand that Bush
get out of Iraq, end the occupation, bring the troops home now, and invest
money in things people need, not war and the establishment of a global military
empire.""Bush's lies about the war are coming home to haunt him," Holmes said,
"and it's crystal clear that U.S. troops in Iraq are engaged in occupation, not
liberation. Bush should cancel his trip to New York City.""After wasting
billions on war and giving billions more in tax givebacks to the rich, it's an
insult for Bush to waltz in to New York city -- where rents, subway fare, college
tuition, unemployment, and poverty are going up -- to raise more money from
his rich friends," Holmes continued. "Instead of a fundraising dinner, Bush
should be appearing before an impeachment proceeding for deliberately lying to
the world about his war and colonial occupation of Iraq."For more information on
the June 23 rally, contact A.N.S.W.E.R. at (212) 633-6646 or
