Did the Repubs get anything like the kind of candidate they wanted when the Dems last had the opportunity to put someone forward for the Court? I don't remember Douglass being anything other than VERY liberal..... Clinton's nominations of Breyer, for certain, and Ginsberg, possibly, were made after serious conversations with Orin Hatch. The model is there. We'll see whether Bush wants a confrontation or not.
