Weak spy network hurt hunt for arms

Just another form of somewhat addled defensive manuevering, Karen. Sort of "let's change the subject." Bush's better tactic is the one he's publicly pursuing which is to say it wasn't about wmd after all. It's all those "revisionists" who think he said that.

Neither strategy will work. And Blair will pay a large price for it. Perhaps not be unseated but certainly diminished credibility and thus power. As for Bush, we'll have to wait and see whether the US public ever cares about such. I've said all along that the real crux of the issue is the occupation of Iraq. They are now in the awkward position of needing to leave quickly to avoid attacks but needing to stay for a rather long time to make life liveable (forget democracy for the moment) and thus make not only themselves but, Steven Rogers point, the US and UN civilians who will be working there, safe.

Over time, with the obvious problems involved, that will increase pressures in the US for withdrawal. When that does the wmd story will go front and center.
