Yeah. It seems more sensible to blame Reagan'Bush for propping Saddam up and arming him, while ignoring his human rights record - which was a 'dirty word during Reagan, because the term 'human rights' was associated with Carter,

If not for the US support Iran would have killed him or otherwise ousted him during the Gulf War he started with them.

Or, and this is especially sensible, blaming the first President Bush for the mess: he attacked the Dictator but left him alive and in power.

It is NEVER good strategic policy to wound a 'bear in the woods', then leave him till the next day.
