It's not the case that the cost of imports is going up. That's because economic activity is falling cutting demand. That's the depression.

The Fed is ``fearful of low or negative inflation over time, which they see as hampering growth efforts,'' said Stephen Gallagher, chief economist at Societe Generale in New York. ``If prices are very weak or on a continued declining path, it has negative implications for growth and demand going forward.''
