PeopleSoft: Board Will Mull Revised Bid

Wednesday June 18, 2:13 pm ET

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - PeopleSoft Inc.'s(NasdaqNM:PSFT - News) board of directors will meet to consider Oracle Corp.'s(NasdaqNM:ORCL - News) revised $6.3 billion bid to acquire it in a hostile takeover of the business software company said on Wednesday.

Oracle's higher bid of $19.50 per share came just two days after PeopleSoft added a cash component to its original all-share offer with smaller rival J.D. Edwards & Co. (NasdaqNM:JDEC - News) in a bid to speed that competing deal.

In a statement, PoepleSoft said that it had "advised its stockholders to take no action at this time," pending review by its board of directors.

The Pleasanton, California company repeated its reasoning for rejecting Oracle's initial bid of $16 per share, citing concerns that the original offer had undervalued the company and would create uncertainties for its customers during a long regulatory review process.
