Personally I was cheered when the Americans went in,..... primarily because of Saddam's bloody behavior towards his own people.

Aside from the oil-trading-in-Euros concern (which is a much bigger deal than most folk realize), I also think Bush wanted to tell the Middle East that it had better start trying to work out a reasonable compromise or the US would do it for them. There is also plenty of evidence around to suggest that the US was getting tired of Saudi behind-the-scenes misbehaviour and wanted to deliver a message to them to shape up or else.

It really is a shame that Bush just didn't lay this out for his constituents. They are not as dumb as many in power seem to believe.
