Scott, I'm a bit surprised at Fiore's ignorance in that cartoon. The White House has tried to stop the recall effort in California, thinking that a weak Gray Davis is better than an incumbent Democrat that can blame Davis for the budget problem during the 2004 Presidential election. Davis isn't popular with Democrats or Republicans; his own Attorney General (Bill Lockyer, who could be the next Governor) once lamented that he needed to bring a check just to get in the door to meet with Davis.
