Kerry's stance in Iraq has been clear. Yes to war but only with maximum cooperation from the UN, smart diplomacy, a Gulf War type coalition, good intel and maximum preparation for post-war Iraq. None of that was done by Bush though he promised us he was working hard on it.
Instead, he abandoned it, demonized the UN and was hell-bent on war ASAP. Kerry always said the invasion would be the easy part. He was right. Kerry also knew Bushies were going to invade no matter what, and Saddam was a menace, so he didn't say "no" to war, he just held Bushie feet to the fire about broken promises, possible deceit, amateurish diplomacy, reckless engagement, faulty intel and pot-war planning. Certainly Kerry's call for an investigation is critical now, to all Americans who aren't trying to cover up for Bushies.
The issue now is that Bushies told us Saddam was an imminent threat as bad as Hitler, that he might send missiles into European cities and even attack the US. They also somehow convinced a lot of people Saddam was behind 9-111 and had Al Qaida ties. These were all either outright lies or exaggerations bent to fit their argument for unilateral war. Now we see the truth, that Bushies had no post-war plan, and after seizing the oil-fields, swiping an election and doing a big photo op really have no interest in making us safer or more trusted and respected.
Now they're rattling the sabers at Iran and will no doubt exaggerate its danger to us as well. But it may be just another case of oil-lust and election swiping. 2004 election subverted by a war with Iran? Very possible Bushie plan. Using our tax dollars and our troops for their own narrow political purposes.
BTW, the oil wealth doesn't flow back to we tax-payers who pay for these wars, nor our soldiers who die in them. The wealth flows into the coffers of offshore multi-nationals who may or may not pay any taxes on their windfall profits. But they will make large contributions to the Bush campaign and will spend tens of millions lobbying for lax pollution regulations, zero fuel efficiency rules and more drilling in wilderness areas and off seacoasts. So the more power the oil companies have the mess progress we will make in converting to cleaner fuels. |
