Buchanon-Press just reported the beginning of plummeting morale in Iraq amongst our troops. MSNBC.com.

Based on a letter from an angry, scared and frustrated soldier serving there, the troops are seeing their buddies being killed every day, fear for themselves, see no government in Iraq controlling anything, themselves vastly outnumbered, serving as cops (which they weren't trained for), unable to tell friend from foe, wanting to go home victorious but unable to because there is no end in sight over there and no UN peacekeepers to reinforce them.

These troops have already been on duty for a long-long time without R+R. It's a bad situation and getting worse.

What I meant by Bushies lying and exaggerating is that they simply spin things the way they want to avoid criticism. Rumsfield's last press conference was full of praises and wonderful news about Iraq. But the reality of the situation is markedly different. Like Reaganites hushed up the S+L debacle because they didn't want to release "bad news" the Bushies seem to have the same mind-set. All bad news gets covered up and denied. And all good news gets exaggerated and celebrated. And when they need evidence to support their positions they manufacture it somehow.

Bush celebrated victory aboard the aircraft carrier, but he celebrated much too soon. Who cares of the Cruise Missiles are no longer firing? The war is ongoing and the advantage is now with the anti-American snipers, bombers and ambushers. It also seems likely these killers will have an infinite amount of reinforcements and small arms supplied from neighboring countries and areas of Iraq.

In short, we have the makings of an expensive, dangerous morass. At the current rate of one casualty per day (hoping there aren't any major attacks like in Beirut) we stand to lose about 500 more troops by election time. That is not a partisan statement, that's just fact. And let's not forget about Afghanistan either, which has similar problems. Nor should we ignore the Bushies new saber-rattling against Iran and North Korea, either one of which could result in some kind of war.

This goes back to the Axis Of Evil speech and might make Bushies wonder "Be careful what you wish for, you might get it". Quagmires of Evil might be a more fitting monniker for those three countries on the necon invasion list.
