We had a good family friend who parlayed a minor talent, at best, into a quite satisfactory life on the stage. Never a star, but made enough to purchase (in the 40s) a house in the Hamptons, belong to the Players Club, and have a good, if not wealthy, life. He always said he parlayed the little talent had into success by hard work and a willingness to take any part that was offered to him and do what he was told about it.
He had just one small movie role. In Airplane, he's the complaining character who on the plane gets knocked out "accidently" Oh, he also, I think, had a bit role in Grumpy Old Men.
But in general, he was a stage actor. Don't think he ever had a starring role in anything. But was perpetual secondor third tier.
So it can be done!
Sadly, he's dead, or I would have been happy to offer to give an intro to him. |
