It's always nice to hear that others share our concern about the abusive nature of what the TIA is intended to do.
Raymond, to ensure you understand me properly, I'm not expressing any informed opinion on TIA. My issue is with choosing Poindexter to lead the project since he is obviously "tainted goods" with regard to his prioor obstruction of justice before congress (for which he was pardoned). He has become a lightning rod for people like yourself, who see something sinister in everything the US government does (while utterly ignoring, or dismissing, the activities of so many other countries/groups).
As for TIA, it seems that it's designed to be a database consisting of data that the Federal Government ALREADY has access to, which can be "mined" for connections and threat profiles. This is very similar to what some particular agencies already do with communications intelligence, both in the US and UK.
But I do also have an issue with DOD running the program since I believe its constitutionality will be questioned. Such a program should fall under the DeptTreasury, or FBI, where privacy concerns must be addressed in a court of law.
DOD and CIA, are forbidden, by law, from collecting intelligence on US citizens, unless provided special permission.
