Frank,

Speaking of your FAGOTO alert, I learned something a couple days ago that is so anti-FAGOTOesque that even I am in disbelief. If the software that comes with your printer is the same as mine, you might remember that it cautions us to put the paper in with the correct side facing up. The reason you might not remember it is because, for any reasonably unintelligent person, that's so obvious that I've always wondered why they caution users about it; anyone dumb enough not to know that would also be dumb enough to ignore the suggestion.

As it turns out, I just learned that you and I know someone who bought a printer and couldn't get it to print correctly. The prints were splotchy and s/he couldn't figure out why. S/he's a pretty smart person (rather, I used to think that until I heard this story). So, I wasn't surprised to learn that s/he uninstalled the software and re-installed it. S/he checked to make sure the proper paper was selected in the software. S/he got new ink cartridges in case the first set was malfunctioning. S/he made a special point of downloading the latest, greatest drivers.

Nah, nothing of the kind had anything to do with the splotchy prints. The problem is that s/he had been putting the paper in upside-down.

P. S. Don't ask. It shouldn't be difficult for you to figure out who.
