And yet another problem with measuring tie ratios is that the consumers won't just stand still.

I'm pretty sure that the internal measurements that Iomega is doing (and reporting changes in) is based on the unit volume sold during a specific time period.

As the installed base gets larger and larger, tie ratios should trend upward. When [not if <G>] there are 500 million Zip's out there, even if they are only selling 50 million per year, there are 500 million Zip owners buying disks. Sure, the number that they buy drops off the longer that they have the drive (until Buz, RecordIt, consumer education, and other products kick in <G>), but it still improves the tie ratio.
