I've been away from SI too long--or perhaps not long enough. I apparently temporarily forgot the wisdom gained from earlier discussions, that is, to bail just as soon as the discussion turns to the meaning of words. But I woke up this morning with that memory regained. And I shall act on it.

Regardless of the meaning of any words, there is a significant difference between the knowing that comes as a result of objective proof and that which we accept as the virtual equivalent though obtained via less definitive and exacting means. Blurring that line in everyday activities is convenient, sensible, and of no consequence but there are issues in which it's important to remember that the line is there and that there is a difference that can matter.
