this piece was written in February and went to press in early March. Putting aside the trusteeship question, look how well the first several pages hold up in retrospect... As for that trusteeship idea, personally I think it's fantasyland, for domestic political reasons in the US if nothing else. (I'm not certain what I would think about it if I decided it were politically feasible.) But it's carefully constructed as a solution to real problems, more so than might be apparent to a casual observer. So--if one doesn't like his answers, one needs to come up with alternative ways of getting around the problems he describes... tb@orjusthrowupyourhandsandbepessimistic,likeme.com
