Oil is the single most important commodity whose price reflects not only our standard of living, but the ability to sustain life itself. World population is still expanding, and inorder to feed the masses, modern methods of farming, distribution, and fertilizing need to be employed, and much of this is oil dependant. We can't go back to the horse and buggy days. Everything we produce has an oil component. The importance of oil cannot be overstated. Examination of alternatives to hydrocarbons fall far short both in terms of price, portability and use. This is a lucky generation. Hydrocarbon products are readily and cheaply available without restriction. Gasoline is cheaper than bottled water. Any squeeze on availability would be disastrous to our economy and way of life.

Hopefully our children will be so lucky.
