May I suggest you ignore anyone who uses a word like "Eurotrash"? Any word designating any group of people "trash" is symptomatic of a kind of mind I would not be interested in discussing anything with. I really liked your post about the kind of discussion we want here- I personally want the kind of discussion that doesn't entail calling any people "trash". That really offends me. Deeply. It contributes to the dehumanization of whole groups of people. I think that is a thing to be ardently resisted. We see all the personal insults on SI-but personal hatreds, slanders and libels are actually less repulsive (thought still repulsive) than these group slanders. Ugh. Hate in a max pack. Yuck

Posters who want to hate the French, or anyone else for that matter, are not going to be changed by anything we might post here. I think we should post in a civil manner, and only to other people who post that way. If you post to the uncivil, it is highly likely they will drag you down to their level.
