He swam home because it was shorter to get there and slept for 9 hours before calling his lawyer who called the police. I remember seeing this on the morning TV. Faulking hero, swam home and went to bed dead drunk while she died. Swam home, made him a hero. He should have been tried by Judge Roy Bean and lynched, instead he lives the good life of a Senator.
