marcos, you know perfectly well that the great majority of Palestinian refugees either evacuated before the war, or fled in panic during the war...had Israel wanted to force all the Arabs out, they could have done so easily. They did not. The Jordanians did force all the Jews out of the West Bank and East Jerusalem, btw. As for who kept the refugees behind fences, that was the Syrians, Lebanese, Iraqis, and Egyptians. Only the Jordanians gave the refugees citizenship and allowed them to move out of the camps.
Why all this one-sided boo-hooing, and demands that Israel alone be "righteous"? Such unreciprocated righteousness would be suicidal, which is why the Israelis did not let the refugees back in after 1949. There was no peace treaty, no recognition, no promise of non-agression - how many guns would they have been letting in to shoot them in the back in the next war? Besides, they had over one million Jewish refugees from Europe and Arab countries on their hands. How is it you never mention how they got forced out at the point of a gun and lost all their property? |
